As an off-campus activity, Mimouna club AUI organized the second edition of the cultural immersion excursion in Rabat to explore the rich past of the historical Jewish life in the city.

The group of the students visited Synagogue Chalom Zaoui, the last synagogue of the Mellah and had an eye-opening conversation with Rav Menahem Dahan, the Rabbi of Rabat, who spoke about Morocco, the Mellah and the tsadik Chalom Zaoui ZT”L.

The group walked through the old alleys of the Jewish quarter and the visited Talmud Torah, the last functioning synagogue of Rabat.

As they heard about his story, the group of students paid a visit to the tomb of Rabbi Chalom Zaoui ZT”L and the tomb of the great Tsadik Eliazar Diavila ZT”L where they lit candles.

The group gathered around a table at Restaurant La Menora to treat their taste buds to Moroccan Jewish food ranging from Jewish Salads, Chicken tagines and pastries and spoke to the owner Jaime Crespin, who reminisced about his childhood in Ksar ElKebir and his relationship with his Muslim friends and neighbors.

Before heading back to Ifrane, the group visited the the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the sky-reaching and unfinished Hassan Tower and discussed the role of HM Mohamed V in saving Moroccan Jews during WWII
